Looking for a Valentines treat to say I love you? Then check out the spa at The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel in Chester. If you want to make a his and hers day of it you can with a number of treatments available in the VIP couples suite. But if you really want to make her feel special I can highly recommend the Lawanna full body treatment, 90 for 85 minutes.

Arriving at the spa, which has seen major investment in the last year or so, most noticeably in the new Asian Sensory Garden, my shoes were replaced by slippers almost immediately; the therapist carrying them on a tray to the changing room as she showed me around. A nice touch, which I havent come across anywhere else.

After taking part in the Asian tea ritual in the decadent Waterfall Lounge I spent time relaxing in the spas pool, steam room and sauna before making my way back to the Waterfall Lounge where my therapist collected me for my treatment: a Thai massage using hot poultices, a larger one for the body and smaller one for the face and more delicate areas, filled ukwith kaffir lime and lemongrass, which are massaged over your skin in the same manner as hot stones would be.

This however, is decidedly more luxurious. I loved the sensation of the warm poultice on my skin, the handle on it allows the therapist to manoeuvre it in just the right way. As it was pressed into my muscles I could feel my aches melting away and every now and then I got a whiff of the delicious scent from inside the poultice which stimulated my senses. As an added treat and memory of the day youre given the poultices to take away at the end of the day.

Relaxed and stress-free I was shown into the candlelit Penchan snooze room to come back round after the treatment finished.

If you (or your loved one) particularly enjoys hot stone massages Id certainly recommend this. Its a bit different from hot stones and with a lasting reminder of the day in the poultices you get to take home with you, it will be one she remembers for a very long time.
