Ive never been to a more aptly named spa Tranquility says all you need to know about the new spa at Peckforton Castle. It opened in July 2010 and since then has been a favourite of guests to the picturesque castle, especially for brides who can now be pampered in true princess style.

Hidden away inside the depths of the castle walls, the spa, with two treatment rooms (a single and double) is cosy and comfortable and while clean and sparkling its less clinical than some other spas and certainly more interesting thanks to the exposed stone brick work of the walls which keep all the sounds of the day out; the tiny windows that let in a slither of light; it even has its own plush monogrammed towels for treatments in a decadent royal purple colour.

I was lucky enough to enjoy the Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual, 99, two hours of pampering including a facial and full body massage. My therapist, (and spa manager) Vanessa led me into the double treatment room just off the main reception room for my pampering treat.

Laying face down on the bed I felt the tension leave my body as Vanessa began with the full body massage. I couldnt see much of my surroundings but as my muscles were kneaded; the scent of the massage oil filling my nostrils I remember thinking how peaceful and serene the room was the result of centuries old, thick stone castle walls no doubt!

Turning over the body massage gave way to a skin specific facial. Vanessa suggested the Elemis Fruit active Glow Facial, designed to nourish skin and renew radiance. Vanessa cleansed and toned and exfoliated my skin which was also treated to a facial massage using Elemis Lavender Skin Bliss capsules and the Fruit Active Glow Mask. As I lay there relaxing a scalp massage with Exotic Monoi Frangipani Oil soothed away the last of my tension. The facial finished with Vanessa using the Soothing Apricot Toner before applying Maximum Moisture Day Cream to seal in moisture to the skin, which felt utterly comforted, hydrated and smooth thanks to the experience.

As she left me to come back around after the experience I watched the tea lights twinkle in the stone archway of the room and thought just what a perfect place this was to relax and rejuvenate your senses.
