José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have taken over the top jobs at Manchester’s Premier League football clubs and they have all they’ll ever need right on their doorstep.
City and United have new managers who will be working hard to reclaim the Premier League title...and any other silverware they can lay their hands on.
Manchester United boss José Mourinho has chosen to live in Cheshire, while City’s Pep Guardiola is basing himself in the city centre.
But besides the challenges on the pitch, what does our area have to offer these two cosmopolitan high achievers?
José Mourinho is a cultured man who admires the writing of Fernando Pessoa, Portugal’s beloved poet while Pep Guardiola is an art lover, who spent much of his sabbatical in the galleries of New York, after leaving Barcelona. Luckily they have the Whitworth and Manchester City Art Galleries as well as Home, the state-of-the-art venue that has replaced the Cornerhouse, just a short drive away.

Mourinho’s favourite car is a Jaguar. He is quoted as saying: ‘I’ve driven many cars of similar high performance and beautiful style, but nothing is like a Jaguar. The noise of the F-Type and the speed... there is nothing like it.’
So he may want to pay a visit to Guy Salmon Jaguar Land Rover in Stockport. It’s a state-of-the-art facility representing two iconic and hugely successful brands, Jaguar and Land Rover - well he may need a little number for all those drives around the Cheshire countryside!
Meanwhile Pep Guardiola is said to hate flash motors so he may want something family friendly such as the new VW Tiguan, a combination of understated style and state-of-the-art technology available at Lightcliffe Warrington.

Every man of means loves a prestige watch. Mourinho’s is the Hublot King Power ‘Special One’ which he made and designed himself while Guardiola has been spotted wearing Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Speed Black FC Barcelona Chronograph and a Rolex Deep Sea Dweller. The Watch Gallery at Selfridges Exchange Square is the place to find exclusive brands including Hublot, Chopard and Rolex.
Meanwhile, if they want to buy their wives a dazzling piece of jewellery then they have a wealth of choice when it comes to jewellers, including Cheshire favourite Boodles.

Tensions on the pitch mean José and Pep both need some r&r. Mourinho doesn’t play golf but he has agreed to be the ambassador for Portugal’s bid to host the Ryder Cup in 2018. Guardiola however is said to be a golf fanatic. Rumour has it that the region’s great courses are one reason he chose to come to Manchester. He could nip down to Hoylake when City are playing in Liverpool for example, and there’s excellent golf at Carden Park, Mottram Hall and The Mere in Knutsford.

The managers are known for their style and while they both look good in a tracksuit they rock a smart piece of tailoring. What they may not know is that they don’t have to travel to London for Savile Row tailoring. They can get it right here in Cheshire.
Phillip Alexander which has a showroom in Savile Row also has one in Wilmslow and can offer Mourinho and Guardiola both a high level of style cut and expertise.
Crewe-based Lutwyche also has a Savile Row outlet but it is at their Crewe HQ that the highly skilled workforce crafts suiting for powerful men such as Barack Obama and Prince Charles and provides fashion-forward tailoring for edgy brands like Vivienne Westwood and Christopher Kane, as well as spending many hours creating designs for its very own Lutwyche label. The new Hampton range may just be perfect for both mangers as it’s contemporary, comfortable and built for movement.
The Spanish dining scene in the North West will ensure Guardiola feels right at home in the region, as restaurants such as El Gato Negro on Manchester’s King Street and Las Iguanas in Chester serve up consistently excellent food.
He could also head for Spinningfields in Manchester to Ibérica. Executive head chef Nacho Manzano, has an impressive three Michelin stars to his name; two for his celebrated restaurant Casa Marcial and a further star for La Salgar. He has developed an à la carte menu that offers guests a real insight into Spanish gastronomy.
Meanwhile over at The Coast in Prestbury, a coastal themed interior is sure to remind Mourinho of the blue skies and Mediterranean shores of home. It’s the perfect place to have an intimate dinner a deux or for a lively meal with the family. The fresh fish and vegetables on the menu such as lemon sole served on fennel with a creamy wild mushroom sauce, are sure to appeal to the health-conscious former footballers but they may be tempted by delicious desserts like lemon tart with mascarpone infused lemon zest.
