Thornton Hough villagers put on the style when they celebrated the 65th anniversary of VE Day. The whole community came together to repeat the celebrations which took place on the village green all those years ago.

Land girls sang and danced, cakes were baked and flags were waved. A replica Spitfire drew attention, as did the 30 calibre Browning machine gun on the back of Nigel Bills 1943 Willys Jeep.

But the guests of honour among the celebrations were the veterans, including 101-year-old Normandy landings veteran George Cross (yes, that is his name) and his friend, former Royal Marine, Tony Taylor.
