Cheshire youngsters were among 300 students from Manchesters three leading independent schools who staged a joint leavers ball at the citys Palace Hotel.

Sixth-formers from Withington Girls, Manchester Grammar and Manchester High School for Girls donned elegant ball gowns and black-tie evening suits for the glamorous occasion their last major gathering before heading their separate ways.

The ball was organised by Withingtons Head Girl Alison Coxon from Bramhall, Manchester High Schools Alice Galloway, also from Bramhall and Manchester Grammar Schools Patrick McCrudden, who lives in Sale.

Alison said:The Palace was a great venue and the room was decorated with balloons representing the three schools. We had a drinks reception followed by a three-course dinner and then dancing to a DJ until 1am. Everyone had a fantastic time.
