Chester is one of the most stunning destinations in Europe according American newspaper USA Today and 10Best.

The city made the shortlist of most attractive places to visit drawn up by senior editors at USA TODAY and 10Best and now readers are being asked in a reader survey to vote for their favourite.

The newspaper highlights Chesters Roman walls, Tudor and Victorian buildings, two-tiered shopping Rows and iconic Eastgate Clock as favourite must-sees.

Chester is up against serious competition to be voted Europes prettiest city in the USA TODAY and 10Best poll online.

The city is competing with a host of stunning locations including Budapest, Copenhagen, Dubrovnik, Innsbruck, Riga, Santorini, Strasbourg, Valencia, Leiden in the Netherlands, London, Lugano, Lyon, Palma de Mallorca, Bergen in Norway and Bruges for readers votes.

Chief Executive of Marketing Cheshire Katrina Michel said:

This is fantastic news but its no real surprise that Chester has been named in this list of such stunning locations.

People have been drawn to the city since Roman times.

Today people come here for romance and relaxation because we offer the wonderful combination of natural beauty with the River Dee and the Meadows and a lively historic centre with our unique shopping Rows and Roman walls. There is literally nowhere quite like it.

Anyone can vote for Chester once a day every day until 12 noon on 18th November and the winners of the reader survey will be revealed on Wednesday, 20th November.
