Rev David Scurr put aside his fear of heights to abseil down the tower of St Chads Church in Farndon.

His efforts were part of a drive to raise money to restore the 14th century tower and a ball was also held in a marquee in the village which featured a four course meal and live music.

The events raised a total of 14,000 and Helen Anthony, who was one of the event organisers, said: It was a tremendous day. The ball in the evening was a great way to celebrate everyones achievements in completing the abseil, especially the vicar who really doesnt like heights.
