How many confident women have holidayed alone, only to find they felt like a spare part? All around are couples confident in their twosomes or singles who are on holiday with the aim of finding romance. And helpful waiters give you a tiny table in the darkest corner of the dining room

Two friends from Cheshire decided something needs to be done to help women holidaying alone. Shirley Mann and Janet Reeder, both freelance journalists in their fifties, have embarked upon a new business venture and already won an accolade.

Janet, a magazine editor and Shirley, a former BBC Radio Manchester journalist, came up with the idea of Reboot Your Life holidays.
Shirley, who hails from Chester, said: The woman in her 50s is invisible. Janet and I are media savvy and want to be their voice. Were not dead yet. We still have something valuable to offer; so dont put us in a cupboard !

Their short breaks, set in the stunning Derbyshire countryside, are aimed at single women or those whose husbands are immersed in a hobby, and are looking for something creative to do themselves.

Janet said: This holiday is for women who feel they need something else in their lives - and a break that might allow them to discover a bit about themselves that has been buried while theyve been busy caring for relatives.

Shirley said: There is nothing out there like this as far as we know. Were not going to make a fortune but boy are we going to have fun.
The breaks include light-hearted workshops in confidence and styling, which help women tackle their gremlins by taking them out of their comfort zone.

Having been on singles holidays as a journalist, Janet found that those breaks were all about single women meeting men, which is not what everyone wants: many women just want a refreshing change of scene.
Shirleys mum, a widow, recently went on a cruise alone. She found it difficult for the first few days until, luckily, she found some guests she could join for dinner.

Shirley and Janet have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to their venture, which came second in the Matlock Mercury Business Awards in January.

Janet said: Its funny but we are our ideal customer. This is giving us new interests and ideas. This is rebooting our own lives. We want to make it a bit of an adventure, where women can feel stimulated and feel as if they have achieved something. There is an emphasis on fun; we want people to have a real giggle.

By the end of the weekends, Janet and Shirley hope to know each woman individually and have created a little community.

According to the enterprising duo, the philosophy of life should be Why not?. They want women to embrace this and believe their holiday will provide women with just that attitude.

The weekend holiday is 325 all-inclusive.
