Last month the fabulous bubbly took centre stage at a gourmet dinner at the legendary French restaurant at the Midland Hotel, Manchester.
The Perrier-Jouet night is one in a series of champagne matched dinners being held at The French over the coming months.
Guests at this occasion enjoyed six imaginative courses which showcased the talents of the chefs at The French and the styles of various Perrier-Jouet bottles.
The Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque 1994 was selected to accompany a fish course of salmon, cured, smoked fritters, beetroot and sour cream and its light flavour was a fine match.
The rare Vintage 1998 - of which there remains only a few cases in the world - was matched to a main course of fillet of beef, salt baked celeriac, smoked garlic; the champagnes firm character stood up to the task. Perrier-Jouets marketing representative Helen Mackenzie pointed out how lucky we were to experience the 1998, prompting an approving round of applause.
A delicious Blason Rose Non Vintage was paired with an exquisite dessert of cherry bakewell, cherry and clotted cream ice cream.
The Frenchs next champagne dinner is November 22nd and features the house of Louis Roederer. The dinner on March 21st 2013 sees the menu paired with Bollinger champagnes. The cost is 99 per person and black tie is the dress code.
