Soul singer Mica Paris entertained guests at the Sapphire Ball at the Hallmark Hotel, Handforth, which raised a massive 35,000 for charity.
Mica is patron of the KIN (Kibera in Need) charity, set up in 2007 to improve life for families in this vast slum area of Nairobi.
Estelle Goodwin, founder and driving force of KIN said they were thrilled by the balls success.
In todays economic climate we value more than ever individual donations and thank everyone for their support and donated prizes.
KIN funds more than 200 Kibera children through school, runs a weekly feeding programme, has made 400 small business loans and provided mattresses, vaccinations, medical support, outings, vocational training and much more.
The amount raised ensures that we can continue to fund our existing support to Kibera residents for 12 months, in particular the Saturday feeding and weekly food packs for the children and carers. It will also finance additional students through four years of secondary education in the safety of boarding schools. The pot available for small business loans can be topped up, said Estelle.
Mica Paris is due to visit the projects and meet the Kibera children.
