A huge 7,000 was raised for the childrens ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in memory of a dear Cheshire Life colleague. Karen Cross, pictured below, was only 33 when she died suddenly last November after a brain haemorrhage.

Emma Burnett, Claire Jepson, Beccy Horne, Samantha Coates and Ali Cole-Jones, a group of Karen's close friends from Mold, Wrexham and Chester, got together to organise a Glitz and Glamour Ladies Evening, in memory of Karen.

Waiters served drinks to over 200 ladies who browsed stalls bursting with clothes, jewellery and toys. There was also a raffle and an auction.

Local businesses, colleagues, friends and family also donated prizes and money towards the event, which took place at Airbus Sports and Social Club, Broughton.

Five of the friends delivered their donation to the hospital, where it will be used to buy additional equipment for the Children's Ward.
