Fashionistas and art lovers gathered at the very stylish Platt Hall Summer Party at Manchesters Gallery of Costume.
Dr Maria Balshaw, Director of Manchester City Galleries hosted the evening which featured extraordinary fashion pieces by British Nigerian designer Duro Olowu as part of the We Face Forward: Art from West Africa Today, a programme of art and music at venues across Manchester to celebrate the London 2012 Festival.
Champagne, wine and an African-style buffet was enjoyed by the guests. Dr Balshaw thanked Harvey Nichols for arranging models for the evening and she acknowledged the support of the many patrons of the gallery for their continued generosity.
The Gallery of Costume, within the grounds of Platt Fields, Rusholme, is something of a
gem. It houses an array of glorious clothes and accessories dating back over 200 years.
It includes dresses from the 1920s flapper era, shoes from the late Victorian and Edwardian
period and even dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn in her films.
