A record 103,000 was raised for the childrens charity Destination Florida at a summer ball held at Mere Golf and Country Club. Supporters of the charity, including celebrities Tricia Penrose, Denise Welch and Beverley Callard, attended the popular event. Former Heartbeat star Tricia also sang with Coronation Street star Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland.
There were also performances by up-and-coming singers Simone Pannett, Scott Chapman and the show band Storm at the event, which was compered by Key 103s Darren Proctor and BBC Manchester presenter Becky Want.
Guests also got the chance to take a closer look at the recently launched Triumph thunderbird motorbike, one of eight donated by the motorcycle company for the Destination Florida Ride for Life trip from Houston to Florida in April 2011. This event is supported by many celebrities from television and radio.
Destination Florida specialise in holidays to Florida for children aged seven to 15 who missed out on the fun and laughter of their childhood because of illness.
