As part of their year-long centenary celebrations Crewe Golf Club held a glamorous black tie ball in a marquee in front of the clubhouse.

More than 300 people attended, including the Mayor Roy Cartlidge and his wife Julie, the
MP for Crewe and Nantwich Edward Timpson and his wife, Julia.

A champagne reception got everybody into the swing and saw Deputy Captain Roy Smethurst and his partner for the evening, Carole Shapton, arriving in fine style by helicopter. Roy won the helicopter ride in a draw which raised funds for the Captains and Lady Captains charity, Hope House Childrens Hospice.

After dinner, speeches were delivered by the clubs President Jeremy Smith, the clubs Captain Martin Ford and Keith Hodgkinson who presented a silver salver from the Royal and Ancient to mark 100 years of golf at Crewe.

The following day saw Crewe Golf Club host its 29th consecutive annual North Region Pro Am, which was well supported with a total of 144 players taking part.
