Champagne Charlie was the toast at an elegant dinner at the Alderley Edge Hotel. Guests at the black tie occasion raised a glass to the house of Charles Heidsieck, the most awarded champagne in the world.

Heidsieck was the original champagne Charlie, earning the nickname on his frequent visits to America where he became a popular society figure in the mid-19th century.

For this occasion, the Alderley Edge Hotels head chef, Christopher Holland, created a menu compatible with the refined style of Charles. Courses featuring white truffle, lobster, scallop, langoustine and rhubarb showcased the gourmand qualities of the wines.

One of the favourites of the evening was the Charles Heidsieck Blanc Des Millenaires 1995, The House Blanc Des Blanc white from white - exclusively chardonnay grape, with distinctive and balanced elegance.
