Breakthrough Breast Cancer raised a staggering 110,500 at an inaugural ball for their North West appeal.

Stars of some of Britains best-loved soaps as well as world-class researchers, breast cancer doctors and surgeons joined forces to beat the charitys fundraising target for the Glitter Ball at the Hilton Hotel, Manchester.

Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, sumptuous food and lavish entertainment from award-winning dance duo Latin Emotion. The evening culminated in a ferocious bidding battle for valuable auction prizes.

Chief Executive of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Chris Askew said: We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the guests who attended and are so excited that this money will go to scientific breakthroughs at the Manchester Research Centre.

Everyone who attended can take pride in the fact that they will be helping the 48,000 women diagnosed every year in the UK with this devastating disease. We look forward to organising more amazing fundraising events over the years and realising our dream of a future free from the fear of breast cancer. For more details about the charity visit

The charity had hoped to raise 100,000 but surpassed this by a staggering 10,500. The money will go to Breakthroughs North West appeal which aims to raise 5 million over the next five years for the research centre based at the University of Manchester, next to the Christie Hospital.
