Located on the south west edge of Greater Manchester, Bowdon is an affluent village set on a ridge rising above the Cheshire Plain

Festival fun

Bowdon Festival, a local music and arts festival, was started to mark the centenary of Bowdon born composer John Ireland in 1979. These early days attracted both seasoned international performers as well as up and coming artists, including the now very famous Rowan Atkinson and Victoria Wood. Today, the year-round festival is a mix of music and art in support of the mission to bring the best local, national and international talent to the community.

Sporty surroundings

The Bowdon Club is a well established club with a history dating from 1856. The Club, which consists of hockey, cricket and squash groups, is run by players and ex-players. They also hold various events such as a bonfire and firework display, and the Pavilion Room is available for private functions. The village also has a croquet club and Bowdon Rugby Club, so you won’t be short of sport whether you are a spectator or player.

Beautiful Dunham Massey

The National Trust owns a lot of the area, as Bowdon is part of the Dunham Massey Estate. This includes the Dunham Massey Hall and deer park, which was built in 1616 and remodelled between 1732 and 1740.

Notable neighbours:

Johnny Marr, former guitarist and co-songwriter of The Smiths, notably wrote songs from the album The Queen Is Dead at his Bowdon home with band mate, Morrissey. Bowdon is also known to be home to a number of Coronation Street stars.
