Record equalling numbers attended this year's Wilmslow Show and gave show chairman Frank McCarthy reason to be optimistic for the future. Around 7,000 people enjoyed the fun and events at the 101st annual show and Frank said: 'At a time when many shows are closing, ours is getting bigger and that is great news.
‘For many years Wilmslow has been a dormitory town for Manchester but the town seems to have found its identity again quite suddenly and people seem to feel they truly belong. Events like the music festival, the market and the scarecrow festival – and of course the Wilmslow Show which is the biggest thing in the town – have given a coherence to the town which has been missing for some years.’
Planning has already begun for the 2014 show which will aim to build on the lessons organisers have learned in previous years. ‘It’s important to have lots going on, to make it a cheap day out, and to have things for all the family,’ Frank added.
