The Christie charity hosted a spectacular ball at Manchester Cathedral to raise funds for the renowned cancer hospital.

The evening included a superb dinner prepared by Masterchef 2015 champion, Simon Wood, followed by entertainment from award-winning singer Gabrielle and top boy band 5ive who have had 11 top 10 singles.

The evening was hosted by comedians and Phoenix Nights stars Sally Lindsay and Dave Spikey, both long-time supporters of The Christie charity.

Dave and Sally said: ‘We were thrilled to be asked to host such an important event. We had an amazing time and we hope all the guests did too! The Christie is a wonderful hospital and we were delighted to be able to help them raise much-needed funds.’

The event was also attended by TV and sporting stars including Emmerdale actress Gemma Atkinson, This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele, former Heartbeat actress Tricia Penrose and former Manchester City footballer Dennis Tueart.

Guests also enjoyed an auction which in total, raised over £100,000. The funds raised at this annual ball will go towards a new molecular diagnostics project based at The Christie, the largest single site cancer centre in Europe.

Molecular diagnostics will revolutionise cancer diagnosis and treatment. It will help scientists, doctors and researchers better understand different tumour types and the most effective way to treat them.

The Christie charity has over 40,000 supporters and raised £13.7m last year to fund projects for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
