The crowds gathered for all the fun of the Nantwich Show

The glorious summer weather made this year’s Nantwich Show one of the most successful ever as the crowds came out in force to celebrate the agricultural delights of the county.

Over 30,000 people flooded into the Dorfold parkland surrounding the historic market town for displays of farm animals like cattle, horses, sheep, poultry, pigeons and dogs...and more besides. (Photos of the Cheese Show are in this month’s Food & Drink section.)

The Countryside Pursuits Area was packed all day with ring displays, while vintage cars, tractors and machinery gave visitors a nostalgic look at motoring from a bygone age.

There were over 200 cattle, 150 sheep and 100 horses in competition, plus trade stands to browse during the countryside extravaganza, which dates back to 1897. Joint Show Secretary George B Lawrence said: ‘It was a very successful show as visitor numbers always depend upon the weather. We had a mixed crowd of agriculture and countryside people during the day,’ he said. ‘Of course, it wouldn’t happen without the volunteers. There are about 300 who help make the show a success. We are so grateful to them all.’
