Our judges are studying hundreds of your photos to select three top prize winners and 12 of the best for the Cheshire Life 2012 calendar
Youve done your bit, now its time for our judges to do theirs. More than 1000 photographs were uploaded to our website since the competition was launched earlier this year.
The first job for our panel of judges was to select a long list of 50. This will then be narrowed down to a short list of 25 from which our three prize winners and the 12 shots for our 2012 calendar will be chosen.
A year of extremes helped amateur photographers across the county create a varied selection for our judges to choose from. The snows of January gave way to an unusually warm spring and a wet and windy summer before the rich hues of autumn returned.
Picture editor John Cocks, who is leading the judging panel, said: This is a harder job every year as the standard of entry just seems to keep improving.
We have had some tremendous pictures sent in by readers this year. They have been out in all weathers and have captured some thoughtful, creative and inspiring images.
Some shots were traditional views of familiar landmarks, others more contemporary; some were taken from hilltops, others by lying in the street; some were urban, some rural but they have all been given careful consideration.
Its always hard to rank photographs, especially when the subject matter is so varied, and that provokes some interesting discussions among the judges.
The three winners will receive a New Canon EOS 600D and EF-S 18-55 IS lens worth 750, a Canon Powershot S95 worth 300, and a new Canon Powershot SX220 HS worth 250 supplied by Wilkinsons Cameras.
The winners will be announced in Cheshire Life next month and every issue of the December magazine will come with a free copy of the 2012 calendar featuring the readers shots chosen by our judges.
