Janet Reeder discovers there are exciting times ahead for the Didsbury-based interior designer to the rich and Almost Famous.

Exciting times for Dan Healey, entrepreneur and owner of bespoke luxury furniture and interiors business Den as he celebrates a decade of the firm’s success.

Dan, who has created interiors for a host of familiar names and places, including the homes of Man United players and Mahmud and Nurez Kamani, the brothers behind the Boohoo fashion empire, along with leading bars and restaurants Chaophraya, Rosso, Solita, Home Sweet Home, Intro and Johnny the Baba (to name a few) have been toasting Den’s tenth birthday and continued expansion  with the launch of his latest commission - Den at Almost Famous.

An in-house team of Den designers and skilled craftsmen have created a high end, bespoke interior for the first floor which includes luxury booth seating, zinc tables, individual chairs and signature print and leather sofas which fit perfectly with the maverick, arty style of the über popular burger joint in the Great Northern Warehouse.

Dan puts his success down to being able to deliver the kind of individual luxury his cool clientele want for their homes and businesses.

‘Bespoke and tailor made,’ sums us up, says the Rochdale born entrepreneur, who now lives in Didsbury.

‘Whenever everybody else says “no. we can’t do that, it’s not our brand,” we say “yes”. We have our own designers and skilled craftsmen who can create whatever you want. It’s that simple.’

And things are going to get even better for his clients as they are opening a brand new showroom on five floors with at least 10 fabulous roomsets.

In September Dan, who appears as an expert buyer in *Channel 4’s upcycling show, The French Collection,  will host the party of the year at his newly refurbished five storey mill in Bury. Two years ago, as the business continued to grow, sky high rents in the city forced Dan to look further afield,  he went on to buy New Victoria Mills in Bury and set about making his vision for Den a reality.

The vast former cotton and textile mill is home to Den’s team of designers and master craftsmen.  All orders for both private homes and commercial venues are designed and custom built from scratch at the mill. A host of movers and shakers and well-known faces from across the region, including past and present clients of Den are expected to attend September’s glittering bash, which will also see the launch of Den’s new super showroom. An entire floor of the mill will feature several individual room layouts, bringing Den’s inimitable style to life in room settings, which will be open to the public.

Says Dan: ‘Den has come certainly come a long way in the last ten years; it’s time we finally allowed ourselves to celebrate and I believe we’ll be doing it in style come September! On a serious note, for me, our survival and indeed success is down to two things - providing affordable luxury. Prices for bespoke furniture can be crazy out there, we keep it sensible. Secondly the client comes first, whether your commission is private or commercial - for one chair or a whole house, we strive to offer the best individual service and care at all times. I’m also kind of proud that everything we do is handcrafted with love, right here in Greater Manchester.’
