Celebrity chef Andrew Nutter is the man to beat in an intriguing culinary competition launched in Manchester.
He emerged victorious at the launch of the third annual Great Northern Cook Off (GNCO), seeing off competition from some of the North West's best chefs. The event at Malmaison was hosted by the Manchester Hilton Hotel's executive head chef David Gale who also took the role of judging chairman. Andrew was up against the Malmaison's own Kevin Whiteford, Paul Beckley from the
Midland Hotel's French Restaurant, and The Angel's Robert Owen-Brown, all tasked with making a Manchester landmark using sponge and cake decorations only. Other chefs supporting GNCO throughout the year include Thomas Ludecke, executive chef at Stanneylands in Wilmslow and Michelin starred chef Michael Caines MBE. Run over three knockout rounds, the GNCO competition will culminate in a final cook off, judged by Michael Caines. The winning team's prize is to have Michael as their personal chef at his Abode hotel, Chester.
