A smart French restaurant with a slightly British feel near Heatley. La Boheme is run by head chef Olivier Troalen with his wife Adele who manages the front of house. Olivier trained in Paris and in the 1990s worked at the French Embassy in London where he cooked for VIPS including the Queen, Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher.

It’s seems a shame to give full details of what I ate because by the time you read this the menu will have changed and you won’t be able to sample the same delights. The menu changes regularly but I’ll stick my neck out and say I can’t imagine you’ll be disappointed here. My colleague and I chose from the Christmas set menu (£25 for two courses, with some supplements). We loved the curried parsnip soup starter, the fillet of beef with blue cheese sauce and lamb noisette main courses. I recommend the opera cake dessert if you have room - all portions are generous. The Times recently declared this the best value quality French restaurant in the North-West.

Decor and ambience

It’s modern, airy and comfortable. The bar area is particularly chic, perfect for a drink while you peruse the menu.

Friendly and efficient.

This is good food at a reasonable price. Two of us dined royally on the fixed price menu with a a couple of glasses of wine, coffee and petit fours for £71.
