PAmpering and Prosecco were on the menu at the fabulous five star Lowry Hotel - the occasion? An exclusive Cheshire Life luncheon with a difference.

Our guests were given a taste of prepping for the party season before indulging in the foodie delights that The River Restaurant at the Lowry on Dearmans Place has to offer.

The streets may have been filled with revellers and shoppers but the hotel’s QMS Skin spa proved to be the perfect escape from the bustle of the city, just a five minute stroll from the centre of Manchester in Salford, an oasis of calm and relaxation.

The treatments here are first rate, as befits a five star hotel and it’s a pristine environment that is also wonderfully discreet.

You can visit the spa for a treatment before heading to a party or even hire the spa itself for your own exclusive use, creating a bespoke package in collaboration with the spa team that includes food and drinks - surely a brilliant party option for the new year, when some guests may want to detox but still have fun.

The luxurious spa reception area was where Cheshire Life’s guests were able to chat while enjoying glasses of fizz, canapés and an array of mini treatments.

Invitees both male and female had the chance to enjoy a facial, or back massage, a nail file and polish or a glamorous cluster eyelash treatment, delivered by the skilled and charming spa team, using signature Elemis and QMS products.

As luncheon was scheduled a little later than usual, hunger was kept at bay by a super selection of canapés, which included cheese and onion tart, duck and red peppers and a crab bonbon accompanied by a sweet chilli dip.

Treatments complete, it was time to sample the culinary delights of the Lowry’s River Restaurant, courtesy of executive head chef Andrew Green and his team who had created a perfectly balanced lunchtime menu.

As glasses of Malbec and Chenin Blanc were poured, a starter of perfectly cooked scallops was served. It was a prettily colourful light dish that had added crunch from florets of romanesco cauliflower, trendy Nduja and punchy sweetness from cubes of beetroot and sweetcorn puree.

Wild supreme of turbot followed, cooked so that it was firm and flaky, presented with haricot blanc, and a delicious velouté made from a celery-ish lovage.

This crowd-pleasing three courses was finished with a beautifully plated crème brulée tart, that was served with sticky caramelised apples, and given added wintery depth and texture by the addition of walnut, dates and chocolate.

To continue the spa experience, guests were able to take home a goody bag filled with samples from the QMS and Elemis ranges.

The spa is the first UK hotel spa to feature the award-winning QMS Medicosmetics Skincare and Spa Treatment Collection and offers treatments from the number one luxury skincare brand Elemis.

Guests also took home a pretty presentation box of fragrances by the luxury Italian perfume brand the Merchant of Venice and a copy of Cheshire Life - of course! Three lucky guests walked away with a free spa treatment and gifts sets for Elemis and QMS after winning a raffle.
