Manchester is welcoming its first ever week long cocktail festival this August and is definitely an event for the calender.

August is a very special month for all you cocktail lovers, as this summer Manchester welcomes its first ever week long cocktail festival. Commencing on the 8th August, Manchester Loves Cocktails promises to be a week packed full of world class spirit’s, Manchester’s best bars and restaurants, unique one-off events and of course lots of sampling of everybody’s favourite (and some more obscure but still tasty) cocktails.

The festival is sure to keep you busy and spoiled for choice all week, as there are over forty events taking place at over twenty venues. Cane & Grain, The Whiskey Jar, Tusk, The Alchemist, Epernay and Trof are just some of Manchester’s best bars that will be taking part in the festival, and at the centre of it all is every pizza lovers dream, Crazy Pedro’s, where you can go and gather information on all of the weeks happenings. With so many brilliant events going on, it might be a little overwhelming choosing what to do and where to go next, so that’s we’ve given you a brief overview of the week as well as selecting some of our festival highlights that shouldn’t be missed.

Monday 8th August

Manchester Loves Cocktails kicks off in style on Monday with a Gin VS Whiskey event at Corridor and a War of Roses industry competition over at Tusk to fill up your Monday afternoon. The festival truly commences however on Monday evening with the MLC Opening Party at Crazy Pedro’s, where you can expect great music, food, company and of course lots of delicious cocktails.

Tuesday 9th August

The fun continues on Tuesday as things start to get competitive at the Licor 43 Mixology competition over at The Alchemist. Get a front row seat and take in all the creative action from some of Manchester’s finest bar tenders and mixologist’s as they come together to take part in this tough but tasty competition. Later on, Mojo’s hosts their Pina Colada party celebrating everyone’s favourite summer cocktail where you can even get stuck into a pineapple eating contest.

Wednesday 10th August

If you’re feeling the effects of the Pina Colada party head down to Tusk for a hair of the dog just in time for Gin O’clock where you can spend dinner time indulging on half price pizzas and all things gin. Wednesday night is bingo night with a twist at Black Dog Ballroom, as you can play Mexican Gringo Bingo (commonly known as Lotteria). There will also be a selection of tequila cocktails, courtesy of el Jimador, to accompany your bingo playing; you might even be in with a chance of winning some prizes!

Thursday 11th August

If the festival is getting the better of you then you can opt for a more relaxing night on Thursday evening, as Botanist are hosting a Langleys In the Conservatory event. You can enjoy the evening in the ‘Conservatory’, sip on Langley’s G&T’s and even make your own cocktails with the help of some expert bartenders. If you’re up for another evening of partying however, you can head down to the Fitzgerald’s whiskey fuelled, American blues and rock n roll Bourbon and Blues party.

Friday 12th August

All of the cocktail drinking may have you feeling slightly sluggish by Friday, so Dancing with Daiquiris at The Liquor Store will definitely put you back in the mood for the weekend as sip on your favourite daiquiris whilst getting a crash dance lesson. All that dancing will probably have left you feeling peckish however The Liars Club has just the answer in the form of their BBQ party; Jamaican Me Hungry. Enjoy Caribbean flavours, lots of rum punches and of course plenty of reggae vibes.

Saturday 13th August

A Brockmans’ Gin-tervention makes for the perfect Saturday dinner time as you will learn all about Brockman’s from the botanicals up whilst sampling some delicious deserts from the chefs over at Allotment. Carry on the gin theme into the evening at Gorilla for their Aviation All American Gin Party. The night will be full of informal gin tasting and all things American.

Sunday 14th August

The only way to end Manchester Loves Cocktails the right way is to head down to Hula for official closing party as they take over Rosylee’s roof terrace and transport you to tropical beaches. The typically rainy Manchester weather will have to hold off for the evening as the rum-fuelled beach party will include all things holiday from deck chairs to palm trees and with a bit of luck maybe even some sunshine.
