Ring O Bells, Christleton
This award-winning pub in a charming village just outside Chester strikes all the right notes in its new lease of life under the direction of Ian Wade and head chef Andrew King who has struck up rewarding alliances with local producers of fine ingredients to create fantastic regional signature dishes. Completely in tune with the renaissance of the great British menu, the Ring o Bells now boasts the addition of The Glasshouse in which to serve it.
Crown Inn, Goostrey
Growing Cheshire-based pub group Kalton & Barlow and its management team have worked wonders on this traditional village inn dating back to 1800. Period features have been carefully retained and preserved and though theres a new emphasis on good hearty food on a menu of retro British classic dishes deploying fine local ingredients, the Crown is still very much a pub at heart serving some great local brews.
Hanging Gate, Weaverham
Third opening of the irrepressible partnership of David Mooney and Paul Newmans expanding portfolio, the Hanging Gate embodies a 250,000 makeover of a splendid former 18th Century coaching house fallen on hard times. The pairs astute nose for location and populist feel for up-to-the-minute hospitality good food, good beer and good wines in great surroundings has delivered the works with sourcing of ingredients starting at the back door.
