Coleen Nolan may have been born in Lancashire, but the youngest member of the eighties pop band tells Emma Mayoh she is now thoroughly at home in Styal
Coleen Nolan is a happy woman. She is standing in the middle of Tatton Park with husband and musician Ray Fensome, their daughter Ciara, and Ray's mum, Irene. They're out for a day trip to show Irene more of the Cheshire they now call home.
The Dancing on Ice star left her Lancashire roots just over a year ago for the pretty village of Styal, near Wilmslow. It was partly prompted by the lovely experiences she'd had while visiting friends Denise Welch and Tim Healy. But it was also about leaving behind the triumphs and traumas of Lancashire and making a new life.
'Blackpool was going downhill and I didn't want my family growing up around there anymore. Ray and I started to come over here to visit Denise and Tim and every time, we just loved it. We decided this was where we wanted to be, where we had to be.'
Coleen has always been someone who speaks her mind: her public sacking from This Morning after saying she'd pay for her teenage son, Shane, to sleep with a prostitute if he passed his GCSEs proves that.
But now every last detail of her life has been laid bare in her autobiography, Upfront and Personal. Everything from the days in the 80s when The Nolans spent pretty much every week in the pop charts, to discovering her father had abused her sister, the death of her mother and dealing with the fallout of her failed marriage to Shane Ritchie after he had an affair.
