The Marina Dalglish Appeal held a fundraising day in support of their latest appeal, bringing together legends from the Liverpool and Everton football clubs to head up the teams.

A magnificent 40,000 was raised on the day at Formby Hall Golf Club and this will help fund the new 1.3m cancer treatment centre extension at Southport Hospital, improving treatment facilities in the area, and an intra-operative MRI scanner for the Walton Centre at University Hospital Aintree, near Liverpool.

Marina said: I would like to thank all the golfers and celebrities for their continued support for the appeal, and also the wonderful generosity from all our fundraisers who have helped us to reach all our targets so far. We are looking forward to the Unit opening and making a difference to the lives of local people. The winning team was Pitch International, which included her husband, Kenny.

Liz Scott with an English Oak and English Elm. The English Elm has been lost from our landscape due to Dutch elm disease, but this tree is not at risk as it only affects trees with a mature trunk circumfrence, which this of course will never achieve.

The Cheshire Bonsai Society meets each month in Little Budworth, bringing together an extraordinary collection of miniature trees and their talented creators, writes Kate Houghton.
