A world record entry of 5,000 cheeses from some 26 countries were on display at the 119th International Cheese Awards, held at the Nantwich Show.

A host of local companies took home awards and trophies, including Whitchurch’s Belton Cheese which won the Westminster Trophy for the sixth year running, as well as five other trophies, 21 gold, 12 silver, 14 bronze and one highly commended.

Four gold awards were given to Crewe-based Collier’s, who produce their cheese in Llandyrnog from Welsh milk, and veteran cheese producers Joseph Heler in Nantwich were presented with 16 awards plus two trophies.

David Wells, marketing manager at Joseph Heler, said: ‘It’s pretty brilliant and has been another enjoyable show. It’s really nice to see so many cheese lovers here at this event.’
