A second charity ball held at the Hilton Deansgate successfully raised £21,085 for the Factory Youth Zone in Harpurhey. The ball, organised by Paul Chorlton and Phil Derbyshire, was attended by 290.

The money was raised through a raffle and auctions, where prizes and lots included tickets to see the Sports Personality of the Year awards and a day cruise on a 90ft luxury yacht off Majorca.

Paul Chorlton said: ‘The Manchester Ball is a fantastic event, and this year was no exception. I’m touched by the support we receive from our patrons and donors and I’m delighted that we can do our small bit for local charities.’
