The Hammond in Chester is celebrating 100 years of performance excellence

On Tuesday 13th June 2017, it was exactly 100 years since Miss Irene Hammond taught her first dance class, in the ballroom of Chester’s Grosvenor Hotel. To mark this anniversary, The Hammond commissioned a 100th birthday cake from The Devonshire Bakery, Frodsham, and shared it with students, staff and friends of The Hammond.

The Hammond theatre school in Chester chose a fitting way to celebate its 100th anniversary year - by staging a glamorous gala performance.
Staff and students at the renowned arts college gave a stunning performance of music and dance to showcase their talents. Former pupils who have gone on to great things - including international ballet dancer Daniel Dolan - were among the guests at the black tie occasion, alongside local dignitaries, friends and supporters of The Hammond. Since its beginnings as a dance class in 1917 under the direction of Miss Irene Hammond in the ballroom at the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester, The Hammond has provided a nurturing environment for talented young performers.
