It would be a mistake to bypass this beautiful part of Cheshire

For those of you that travel on the M6 motorway you will have crossed the Thelwall Viaduct which is situated within junctions 20-21 and lies west of Lymm.

Thelwall may be famous for this crossing that is over a kilometre in length, but there are many famous landmarks associated with this suburb of Warrington.

Firstly, there are the waterways. the Manchester Ship Canal for which the Viaduct was built to traverse, borders the northern edge of Thelwall, to the south, you will find the Bridgewater Canal.

Secondly, the Trans Pennine Trail that runs from the Irish Sea to the North Sea passes through Thelwall. Part of which which was once the Warrington and Stockport Railway, carrying not just passengers but coal for Fiddlers Ferry power station.

Whether you are cycling, boating or walking, there are plenty of great photo opportunities across a relateively small area, as you can see from our collection of reader photos from across the years.

Why don’t you upload your photos of Thelwall to the reader photo gallery?
