The Menai Straits has has the beautiful of Anglesey and the peaks of Snowdonia as a backdrop.

Before Thomas Telford built the suspension bridge that majestically spans the Menai Straits, the town now known as Menai Bridge was called Porthaethwy.

Prior its completion in 1826 there was no bridge or crossing to the isle of Anglesey, the initial purpose of its creation was to improve travel and trade links between the nearby port of Holyhead and the mainland UK.

The growing popularity of rail travel meant that a second bridge was required, and the Britannia Bridge was built just a mile to the west.

Looking across the Straits, you can see the peaks of Snowdonia on the horizon and if you plan to explore the local area, the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path passes along the waterfront.
