If you sought the perfect British seaside resort, Llandudno would be a strong contender. It has more than one lovely beach, a Victorian pier, and a crop of grand hotels, all arranged in a gentle arc along the front.
Most British resorts lost much of what the Victorian and Edwardian holidaymakers once loved about them. In Llandudno, however, it is still there. You can walk along the pier, wander through canopied shopping streets, watch Punch and Judy on the prom.
Llandudno has two distinctly different beaches: the North Shore, with all the bustle of the town behind it, and the quieter West Shore.
Llandudno Pier is the star of the show at this seaside resort, this magnificent feat on engineering is over 700 metres in length and is a Grade II listed building.
Aside from the magnificent pier, the other great Llandudno landmark is Great Orme. If you are not up to scaling this limestone headland on foot, you can do it by tramway or cable car. That tramway is well over a century old - the only cable-hauled tramway still operating on British roads - and the trip takes you up steep, narrow roads beside doll’s house-like cottages. Standing at the 679ft summit, you can easily see how our Victorian ancestors would have fallen in love with the windswept glory of the Orme.
