Our readers visit one of the great gardens and grounds in Cheshire.

Arley Hall is a a Grade II listed building that lies 4 miles south of Lymm and 5 miles north of Northwich. The hall was built in the mid nineteenth century to replace an earlier house on the site and is a beautiful example of merging different styles of architecture.

The gardens at Arley Hall are the real jewels in the crown of this popular estate, the formal gardens to the southwest of the hall cover 12 acres and are also listed at Grade II on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and the nursery which was established in 1993 has built up a strong reputation for growing a large selection of hardy, herbaceous perennials. Arley Hall is also one of the best places to view snowdrops and bluebells in the early part of the year.

If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, The Gardener’s Kitchen serves brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. Recipes written by the 18th century’s domestic goddess, Elizabeth Raffald, have been recreated in The Gardener’s Kitchen at Arley, the country home where she learnt her trade.

If you’re looking to explore the surrounding area, you can take a walk south to Great Budworth, which was once part of the Arley estate. This pretty village has become a popular place to visit, not least for the famous George and Dragon pub. while Tatton Hall and Park lies a few miles to the east, on the other side of the M6 motorway.

Why don’t you upload your images of Arley Hall to the reader photo gallery?
