Royal Mail analysed over a million UK redirection applications from the last 12 months to reveal the nation’s home moving habits. We look at some of the movers and shakers in Cheshire.

Hoole Road in ChesterHoole Road in Chester

Chester

CH1. CH2, CH3, CH4

Chester remained pretty stable throughout 2016, with slightly more people moving into a CH postcode (1590) than out (1478),

The average distance of people moving out of this area was 30 miles, which suggests people are staying within the CH postcode area (Hoole in CH2 is an increasingly popular location) or they are remaining in the county, but opting for a more rural setting.

London Road, Alderley EdgeLondon Road, Alderley Edge

Alderley Edge

SK9

Alderley Edge is growing a reputation as one of the most desirable places to live in the whole of the UK. The SK9 postcode covers some of the most desirable property locations such as Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.

There were over 574 moves into the relatively small postcode area in 2016 with the highest relocation distance at 470 miles, which indicates a growing desire for property in the area from further afield.

Knutsford

WA16

The number of people that moved into Knutsford in 2016 was greater than the number that left, (390 to 344). The average distance of people moving into Knutsford is relatively low compared to other areas at 39.5 miles, which suggests it’s one of the more desirable locations for Cheshire residents.

To further this point, the average distance moved of those leaving the postcode is one of the lowest at 33.49, which suggests that those who do move away, don’t want to go too far.

Victoria Square, Stockton HeathVictoria Square, Stockton Heath

Stockton Heath

WA4

Stockton Heath is building a reputation as one of the up and coming locations for property in Cheshire, there were 522 relocations into the WA4 postcode compared to 392 leaving, (a 33% differential).

The healthy employment market in the Warrington area (this postcode also covers Daresbury) and property prices that are comparatively low compared to other parts of Cheshire suggest that this area could be the one to watch in the future.

Ashley Road from Hale railway stationAshley Road from Hale railway station

Hale

WA15

Hale was another area that registered over 500 arrivals and departures in 2016, the close proximity to Manchester city centre suggests that it is one of the places to be for those working in the city.

WA15 also registered new arrivals from further afield (some relocations were as high as 460 miles), which suggests that it has a growing reputation amongst people looking to move to the north west.
