Manchester Schools Class of 2014 Leavers’ Ball

Students from three Manchester schools took to the red carpet in style as they enjoyed their Class of 2014 Leavers’ Ball celebration at the Hilton Hotel, Deansgate. Around 300 sixth formers attended the glamorous event, organised jointly by Withington Girls’ School, Manchester High School for Girls and the Manchester Grammar School. The latter’s Jazz Band played during the welcome drinks reception before guests sat down to a three-course meal in the ballroom, followed by dancing to the tunes of a guest DJ.

The two and a half inch Ordnance Survey map shows Plemstall just to the east of Mickle Trafford with the railway line dividing them, Plemstall nothing more than the church and the odd farm. We read that paper maps are on the way out, their place taken by a touch of the button image on the iPad. Techno idiots like myself find this as improbable as printed books being replaced by on-screen texts which we are told is the inevitable fate of the written word, a crowded bookshelf of interesting titles soon to be as irrelevant and unnecessary as horse-drawn carriages.
