Tomfoolery describes itself as a ‘burger joint and cake bar’. It’s wacky. Downstairs, it feels like the set of Happy Days: there’s a juke box, games machine, milk bar, enormous cakes, plus fine wines and champagne. Upstairs, where food is served, the decor combines tartan walls with chandeliers, old masters paintings (with comic enhancements) and 70s style standard lamps. This is a fun, happy setting.

Mainly hearty burgers from traditional beef to unusual varieties like Gone Fishin’ (£11) and Jen Gray Burger (£10) featuring quinoa and beetroot patty, wasabi mayo and brie. I enjoyed the ‘Swayze’ Burger (£12), a thick steak patty, beef bacon with emmental cheese and dill pickle. My friend liked her ‘Black Lamb Burger’ £11 but could not finish it. Prices include fabulous fries and side salad. Also on the menu is Fried Caesar Salad (£8) and Shaved Veg Salad (£8). After a short break we found room for dessertd: popcorn brownie (£4) which comprised salted caramel sauce over popcorn ice cream (as tasty as it sounds) and a superb Black Forest cake Coffee is good here too.

Fine. Fast and friendly.

The above with coffees and a glass of wine each adds up to around £47 between the two of us. Good value.
