Style of venue
This third addition to The New Moon Pub Company, run by chef David Mooney and restaurateur Paul Newman, reopened following a 250,000 makeover late last year. This contemporary venue offers elements of the quintessential country pub with modern styling and approach.

Floral wallpapers combine with chandeliers, rustic wooden tables, huge lantern candles, botanical illustrations and comfortable sofas.

On the menu

The Sunny platter (12.95) was an ideal sharing starter. Wood roasted red peppers, marinated olives, seared halloumi cheese with sweet chilli, garlic mushrooms, butternut squash and chickpea curry was served with bread from Williamsons Bakery in Castle run by chef David and his wife, Jane.

Mains of Low Fell mutton hot pot (10.95) and English shin beef and potato pie (12.95) were enjoyed before a perfect finishing flourish of desserts of Cheshire cheese topped Eccles cake (5.50) and baked egg custard with berry coulis (5.50).

Ambience
A welcoming space that will surely attract locals as well as those travelling from farther afield.

Service
Attentive, friendly but not intrusive.

Cost
Three courses each, a few glasses of wine and coffees came to around 69.
