What a whirlwind it’s been since my dear friend and colleague Patrick O’Neill retired and I stepped into his shoes. I was Patrick’s deputy for three years until I began editing other titles for Archant Life, like Pure Weddings and Pure Taste. Now I’m back in the hot seat and it’s a little like coming home after a journey away. Patrick’s last bit of advice as he wished me luck was ‘Enjoy it, Lou’ and I certainly am!

The invitations are coming in thick and fast: I’ve sipped cocktails with the fashion crowd at Harvey Nichols, met some inspiring women at a very special awards event, hosted my first Cheshire Life lunch at Tom at 101 and dined with Sir John Major. Sitting next to a former Prime Minister at dinner in the glorious setting of Arley Hall was certainly a momentous occasion. But by the time you read this I’ll have enjoyed the Cheshire Show and be clearing space in my diary for the RHS and Nantwich Shows… to name a few major events on the summer county calendar. But that’s enough about my excitement.

I hope regular readers will see from this issue that I have no plans to make major changes to Cheshire Life. It will continue to feature all the great and good things about the county and its people, places, parties, heritage and history - as you’d rightly expect. However, every editor has their own way of doing things so there will be a little tweaking over the coming months. In August issue, we’re having a bit of a redesign. It’s nothing drastic: think of it as a familiar friend having a makeover. You’ll notice some new features and faces, and a more modern typeface. I hope you’ll approve of the subtle changes – we’d be pleased to know your thoughts.

The August issue will be on sale July 22nd. But that’s some weeks away and you’ve not even read the July magazine yet. I do hope you enjoy it. Now where did I put those invitations…?
